How it works

Short and checkable: every limit links to the platform's own page, read on 28 Oct 2026.

  1. Words divided by your pace

Each word counts once — a number like 1,089.60 or a word like year-round too. The length is words ÷ words a second. Sentences are timed one after another, so you see where the script drags.

  2. The paces are presets, not rules

Calm, talking and rush are round settings to start from. Fast short, 3.3 words a second, is what we measured on a 90-second explainer short. The best number is yours: press start, read the script aloud at your real speed, press stop.

  3. Where the marks fall

For each of 15, 30, 60 and 90 seconds, the timer shows the sentence playing and the word being said. If your hook isn't over by the first mark, it is long.

What it doesn't do

  • It doesn't hear you: the stopwatch only counts the seconds between your two taps.
  • It doesn't count pauses, music or cuts between sentences — a real edit can run a little longer.
  • Nothing you type is sent or saved.

Questions

How many words is a 60-second video?

About 150 at a calm 2.5 words a second, 180 at a talking pace of 3, and 200 if you speak fast like many explainer shorts (3.3 a second). Time your own pace with the stopwatch for the real number.

How many words is a 30-second script?

Between 75 and 100 words for most speakers.

Does it count pauses?

No. It times words only; music, cuts and pauses make a real edit a little longer.
