Is your video loud enough?
Drop a video or a recording. Its loudness is measured the way broadcasters measure it, then set against the level each place plays at — with the line that brings it there.

How it works
Short and checkable: every limit links to the platform's own page, read on 28 Oct 2026.
Measured by BS.1770
The sound is weighted the way the ear hears it (a boost around 1.7 kHz, a cut under 38 Hz), averaged in 400 ms blocks, and the quiet blocks are left out — the method behind every LUFS meter, EBU R 128 and Apple's podcast rules.
Peaks between the samples
True peak is estimated by looking between the samples at four times the rate, where a loud sound can overshoot once it is converted or compressed. Keep it under −1 dBTP.
One line to fix it
ffmpeg's loudnorm filter brings the file to the target and holds the peaks under −1 dBTP; the picture is copied as it is.
What it doesn't do
- Surround channels are all weighted 1, like mono and stereo: a 5.1 file reads slightly off.
- True peak is an estimate, within a few tenths of a dB of a broadcast meter; loudness range can differ from another meter by about half a LU.
- It doesn't change your file: it measures it and gives the fix.
Questions
How loud should a TikTok, Reel or Short be?
No platform publishes a target. -14 LUFS integrated with peaks under -1 dBTP is the common choice: it is Spotify's normal level, and a video mixed there sounds as loud as the ones around it without distorting.
What is LUFS?
Loudness Units relative to Full Scale: loudness measured the way the ear hears it, by the ITU-R BS.1770 method (a filter that weights the frequencies, then an average over the whole file that ignores the silences). -14 LUFS is louder than -23 LUFS.
How do I make my video louder without distortion?
Raise the sound to the target with a limiter on the peaks. The tool gives the free ffmpeg line (loudnorm) for the target you pick; the picture is copied untouched.
